Tasmania’s boutique, yet burgeoning wine industry boasts four distinct wine touring regions
- Tamar Valley Wine Route (the north)
- Southern Wine Region
- East Coast Wine Region
- North-West Wine Region
All are within easy reach of major centres or en route to some of Tasmania’s icon attractions. Within each region are sub-regions, all of which offer a diverse and sophisticated range of wine styles. These wines are available from an equally diverse array of cellar doors – from ultra modern cellar door restaurants to quaint cottages, heritage stables to converted back sheds! Each vineyard has its own special charm and character and as we know, wine never tastes better than when you sample it direct from the cellar door!
As you will see from the Wine Routes section you can tour the Tasmanian Wine Route easily by car or on a guided tour. There are a number of tour companies that will guide you on a half or full day tour. You may prefer to take a guided chauffuer driven wine tour - where tasting isn't impaired by the need to drive. Take your time to explore the varied wines of the Tamar Valley, located north of Launceston along both sides of the Tamar River and east to Pipers River; the Derwent, Coal River and Huon Valleys, an easy drive from Hobart; or en route to Cradle Mountain in the north-west or Freycinet and Wineglass Bay on the sunny east coast.
