Hobart is Tasmania’s capital city, located in the south-east of the state. It is Australia’s second oldest city and the nation’s smallest capital, with a population of just under 215,000 people.

The city is located at the foot of Mount Wellington, surrounding the beautiful deep water harbour of the River Derwent. Hobart is rich in maritime history and a diverse range of crafts including Antarctic supply vessels, sailing dinghies, catamarans, kayaks, yachts, fishing boats and square riggers can be seen on the river on any given day.

The CBD is a short walk from the harbour - easily accessed and explored on foot. The city is home to an exciting mix of history and contemporary art and culture and is renowned for its heritage sandstone buildings, beautiful parks, fine restaurants, arts and crafts (including the famous Salamanca Market held every Saturday).

Tasmania is a world leader in fresh produce, which is readily available in Hobart and includes seafood, Tasmanian salmon, cheeses, berries, beer, whisky and chocolate. Hobart is also the gateway to some of the state’s boutique wine regions with a number of vineyards located nearby.
