Accommodation

Hobart is home to a large number of hotels and accommodation options (bed and breakfasts, youth hostels, etc). OzAccom has made bulk reservations at a range of suitable hotels to secure rooms in anticipation of the 8th ICCS.

Getting to the Tasmanian island

Airlines that fly direct to Hobart (the host city for the 8th ICCS) from the Australian mainland are: Jetstar, Qantas and Virgin Australia. Tasmania can also be reached from Melbourne via an overnight ferry, the Spirit of Tasmania. The ferry docks at Devonport, approximately 3 hours' drive from Hobart.

Car hire

A range of car hire companies operate in Tasmania. As with accommodation and travel, availability of cars is subject to peak season demands - delegates are advised to book ahead to avoid disappointment.

Travel insurance

Travel insurance is recommended as a simple and standard traveller’s ‘peace of mind’. Travel insurance must be purchased in the country of residence.

Visa requirements

All travellers to Australia, other than Australian and New Zealand citizens, are required to hold a valid visa or electronic travel authority (ETA). Ensure documentation is correct and completed before you commence your journey. It is recommended that delegates apply for their visa/ETA at least 10 weeks before their travel date (earlier in some cases).

Quarantine

Tasmania and Australia have very strict quarantine rules which are enforced at all seaports and airports. Animal and plant product imports (including numerous food products such as meat, fruit and vegetables) are restricted and must be declared when entering the country and/or State. Passengers’ luggage is inspected using sniffer dogs.
